I don't know where to start and I just don't know what to do.

I am worried about my Brother and feel he is suicidal/depressed etc.

He has just recently divorced (2 yrs). In that time he has spiralled into a big black hole and it's getting worse.
He has debts to the tune of 40k +, he has just swept them under the carpet to make them go away. He has had demand letters, in arrears with the bank etc His car has been repossed too. He has been in and out of work.
He has bled my parents dry, my sister cashed in a policy so that he could buy another car, he didn't and we don't know what he's done with that money.

I've told him he needs help to go to the doctors, he says he can't afford it. I've mentioned about coming on here, he won't. We live in NZ we've told him to come back here to sort himself out but he won't because he says it would break his heart not seeing his son.
We've mentioned that maybe he might have to go bankrupt but then he says he can't leave the country for 5 years.
He was living in a tent for awhile as he couldn't afford bond for a place. My parents helped him get into another flat .

I'm sorry if I'm not making sense. My parents are stressed to the max, it's making them ill. My sister said she feels like she's having a breakdown as she is also dealing with her husband having terminal cancer and now my brother has been on the phone crying.

Oh please help as I just don't know what to do.

G'day norton, is your bro in NZ or AU?
I believe there is such a thing as going insolvent without declaring bankruptcy, by doing this he will still have to pay some of the money he owes, but only about 30c in the dollar. It's worth looking into.

The best you can do for him is get him to go to a meeting if there is one near by.

Thanks for your reply.

He is in OZ we are in NZ.

I have never heard of going insolvent, I'll have to do a google not unless you know of the right place to look.

We have tried everything. My parents have been over there for the last 6wks and my mum said she has never seen someone cry so much and she feels sorry for him.
He really needs to help himself but I can't see that happening any time soon.

G'day norton,
I only heard about the insolvency thing myself very recently from a friend who is considering it. The Government has a department especially for insolvency. Sorry I don't know any more on it. Google foxsymes Ph: 1300361204

Your bro will be emotionally disfunctional for some time or until he decides to act. (He is in shock) All you and your parents can do is love him, be there for him, encourage him and be his friend. He will be feeling very lonely now. Most of his thoughts will be of his debts and his loss of the relationship.

Good luck Norton
